MANILA, Philippines - An assistant of actor Richard Gutierrez was killed while the matinee idol and his bodyguard were injured after they figured in a road accident in Cavite province before dawn Friday.

PO1 Bonifacio Tañola of the Cavite police said the accident occurred at 1:20 a.m. at an accident-prone at the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road in Puting Kahoy village in Silang town in Cavite.

“Bale bumangga po sa poste, malalim ang lugar na binagsakan niya. Medyo may bangin at bumangga sa puno ng niyog [Gutierrez’s car hit a post and fell into a deep ravine, and hit a coconut tree]," Tañola said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Gutierrez's assistant died while being treated at the Adventist University of the Philippines Hospital. A separate report on dwIZ radio initially identified him as Norman Pardo.

The dwIZ report said Gutierrez, 25, and his bodyguard George Mastura, suffered relatively minor injuries and were rushed to the Tagaytay Hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation showed Gutierrez was on his way home from a shooting when the accident occurred.

He was the one driving the Nissan Skyline GTR sports car.

Tañola said the area where the mishap took place is “accident-prone" as it is near a blind curve. He said there have been complaints that there are no lights or safety barriers on that part of the road. - GMANews.TV

Update: Richard Gutierrez was being transferred to Asian Hospital for further treatment.

I am living in that area,Tagaytay meridian, I saw the accident but i never thought that it was richard who is on board. there is a post on that area but the report is not true that there is no metal barrier there. although, it is really an accident prone area. this is the reason why we have no electricity from 1 to 4 am...this is not the first time that somebody died in that same area. it is a blind curve, when we go out of our subd, it is very hard for us to get inside the lane (specially in you are bound to sta.rosa) . you need to look at both sides of the lanes immediately in order for you get inside the lane and to avoid accidents.

Thanks Ramses, I think your local Government should make some proper actions on that area for the commuters and passers by's safety. We cannot afford for another life being wasted in such avoidable accident.

Car accidents that cause injuries have happened virtually since automobiles were invented. The first recorded accidental injury occurred in 1869. An Irish woman named Mary Ward was thrown out of the steam-powered carriage she was riding in when it hit an especially deep rut in the road. She was immediately crushed by one of the wheels, her injuries causing an instantaneous death. Her cousin had actually been the inventor of this new type of vehicle, in a cruel example of irony. Over the last 25 years or so, car accident injuries resulting in deaths have declined an impressive 50% worldwide. This is due primarily to increased emphasis by both governments and car manufacturers on safety, including the standard use of air bags to reduce the number of severe injuries and deaths caused by front and side car-to-car collisions.
