Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Rumors and Expectations about the ending

There are some things we know for a fact will take place in Deathly Hallows. For one, we will find out how Hogwarts responds after the attack. Questions that remain about Hogwarts are “Will it reopen?” and “Which teachers will return”? Further, there is an expected wedding between Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour that several characters will probably attend. Also, Harry will try to make the trek to the Dursleys’ house in order to satisfy the requirements of Dumbledore’s protection. It is also expected that Harry Potter will try to visit his parent’s old home with Ron and Hermione, though there may be complications. One of Harry’s major goals in this book will be to destroy all of Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes.

In addition to these plot elements, JK Rowling has confirmed that the last chapter will be an epilogue detailing the state of affairs of surviving characters after Harry’s class leaves Hogwarts. She has also confirmed that “there are deaths - more deaths coming.” That’s one of the most anticipated plot elements. Rowling has also indicated that we’ll find “something incredibly important about [Lily, Harry’s mother] in book seven.”

Of course rumors abound about what Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will reveal. Everyone wonders whether Snape will turn out to be a good guy or a bad guy. Personally, we feel pretty strongly that he’ll turn out to be a good guy, but there are plenty of people who disagree. Our view is that Snape is fundamentally good, but a little rough around the edges with a somber personality. He unequivocally did not kill Dumbledore. However, Rowling’s comments have been ambiguous.

The biggest question of all, though is who dies and who lives. This is probably the single most successful and brilliant book marketing ploy in the history of the written word!
